A GP based in Greenmount Bury has been appointed as the new Chair of NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). Dr. Cathy Fines, a GP from Tower Family Healthcare Greenmount, will take on the role of NHS Bury CCG Chair from 1 September 2021. She will take over the reins from Prestwich GP, Dr. Jeffrey Schryer who has clinically led the organisation since April 2018.

Cathy is currently a Clinical Director at the CCG taking the lead on women, children and safeguarding themes.  She has been a GP for 17 years and will continue in this vital frontline role, alongside the role of CCG Chair.  She completed her post graduate medical training at both North Manchester and Fairfield General Hospitals and has worked as a GP in the south of Bury moving to Tower Family Healthcare more recently.

As CCGs will be replaced by a new type of NHS integrated commissioning organisation from April next year, Cathy will fulfil the role of CCG Chair until 31stMarch 2022.

Speaking about her appointment, Dr. Cathy Fines said:
“It’s a privilege to have been appointed as Chair of the CCG and I’m really looking forward to taking over the reins.  It’s an exciting time as health and care teams continue to become better connected to provide more coordinated and personalised services and care for local people.

“Having worked as a Clinical Director at the CCG for some time, I feel so proud of our teams, those planning services behind the scenes and those working on the front line.  It’s been a challenging time for everyone, but we have continued to focus on what matters to ensure patients have access to quality care when they need it.  Of course, there is always more to do and I’m really looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“I would like to thank Jeff for all of the contributions he has made to get us to this point, and now look forward to working with colleagues and partners to continue to build on his good work.”
