Falls Prevention Talk 27 January 2020

by timpickstone on 21 January, 2020

THE Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) is inviting elderly local residents and trust members to a free talk at Rochdale Infirmary, which will give advice about how older people can prevent falls at home and keep fit and healthy in old age.

The NCA’s Integrated Neighbourhood Team based at Rochdale Infirmary, which specialises in falls prevention and community physio, will deliver the talk.

This takes place on Monday 27 January, from 1pm to 2pm, in Room D3, Level C, Education Centre, at Rochdale Infirmary.

Advice will be given about how falls can be avoided and how to stop frailty from setting in. Frailty is a preventable condition that often leads to hospitalisation. Attendees will also learn about risk assessing their homes and strategies to reduce falls.

Making elderly residents aware of what they can do to prevent falls at home and in the community and how to keep fit and reduce frailty, will reduce referrals to community physiotherapy and the falls prevention team.

Matthew Nugent is delivering the talk and he is the Team Lead for Community Physiotherapy and the Falls Prevention Service at Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Community Services, which is run by the NCA. Matthew said:

“Frailty is one of the leading causes of hospital admission and entrance into long term care for older people. It is often preventable and reversible if we can help those at risk of becoming frail or have recently become frail by encouraging a healthy active lifestyle.”
