My father is 82 and was left without gas this evening following the gasworks by Balfour Beatty and Cadent today on Tamworth AVE 5.9 19. They said Dad had a gas leak on his oven (which wasn’t detected before they arrived) Dad asked if they could help and was told “it wasn’t their job” and then left without attempting to sesl off the leak.

I live and work in Birmingham and was appalled they left a vulnerable elderly man with no heating, hot water or way of cooking.

I rang Balfour Beaty and challenged them on leaving my 82 year old father without heating who said it was “their procedure” not to turn on the gas in the event of faulty appliances. When I challenged why they could not have “capped off the appliance” they said he should seek “independent advice”. I.e. not their problem!

I have asked for their complaints address and they didn’t know it and suggested “someone would ring me tomorrow”. I stated their procedures were appalling. My father has heart and kidney failure as well as Vascular Dementia and find BB’s attitudes appalling and have concerns for him getting hypothermia.

Someone should make this company reflect in their appalling “procedures”
Not to mention the 2 holes they have put in his driveway making it hazardous to leave the house or get a taxi to his doctors!
