Just to update residents about the long-standing absence of a street light at the entrance to Brookvale towards the eastern end of Simister Lane. As I understand this light has been out for over 12 months and making this part of the lane feel particularly un-lit.
I have investigate this with the Council. The original light was attached to an Electricity North West Pole (ENW), but was removed during their overhead line and pole review. Due to an incident where a BT Openreach worker was tragically killed, permission to re-attach equipment to poles like this is no longer granted.
The Council has put up a new column , but need it connecting. Unfortunately, the nearest supply is on private property and ENW are going through a process to obtain permissions to run the feed for the new column through a private garden. ENW are now in contact with the resident in order to resolve this matter.
At this moment in time they haven’t come back to the Council with a date, but I wanted to let residents know that this was in in hand and why it has taken the Council so long.

12 months – absolutely unbelievable amount of time to carry out this most important work to re-instate important street lighting. If Health & Safety regulations prevent equipment being attached to BT poles what about Health & Safety regulations regarding pedestrians walking down dark lanes ??
Surely the land required to run the feed to the new lamp standard belongs to one of the residents who is concerned about the lack of light !!
To be fair Pete I think the delay is with ENW, not the residents – happy to be corrected if that isn’t the case!
ENW are the ones I aim my comments at Tim. If I had a ‘to do’ list as long as ENW I would have been sacked !!
