Bury Old Road Roadworks

by timpickstone on 28 October, 2016

Many residents will have had a letter about the structure improvement scheme, due to take place on Bury Old Road, between the junctions of Hardman’s Road and Walker Avenue. The scheme will entail renewing the vehicular parapets (barrier) and increasing the height of the pedestrian parapets, improving safety for motorists and pedestrians using the bridge.

This is the information provided by the Highways Agency:

Works are due to start on or shortly after 7 November 2016 for approximately four months. This will take place during daytime hours (08:00 and 17:00), Monday to Friday. Some night time or weekend working may be necessary to suit certain operations. All works will be postponed for the Christmas period starting from 3 December 2016 running until 7 January 2017.

In order to facilitate and carry out the works safely, temporary two-way traffic lights and lane closures will be in place during the dates and times stated above. Kenilworth Avenue will be closed to vehicles at its junction with Bury Old Road throughout the works with a diversion route for local traffic. Pedestrian provision will be maintained at all times.

Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald (BBMM) will be delivering these works on Highways England’s behalf.

As your councillors we have already raised the issue that it would seem ridiculous to be undertaking this work at the same time as the work on Bury New Road in the village (scheduled to start int he new year). Council Officers are looking into this urgently.
