Bus Changes Agreed – 92, 93, 95 97 and 98

by prestwichfocus on 11 March, 2015

As reported last week Transport for Greater Manchester met last Friday to consider proposed changes to the bus network – mainly this affects the south west of Prestwich, but will also be of interest to residents who travel to these areas and use these bus routes for other journeys. Although here have been a couple of changes which do slightly improve the situation, the changes will now unfortunately happen.

The changes are:

92 (Manchester – Carr Clough – Pilsworth – Bury)
CLOSED

93 (Manchester – Carr Clough – Whitefield – Bury)
Changed to just Manchester – Carr Clough ONLY – but increased to every 20 minutes (currently every 30 minutes and the original proposal was for every 15 minutes)

95 (Salford Shopping City – Whitefield)
This hourly service is being extended to run through to Bury via Stanley Road, Parr Lane, Ribble Drive, Mersey Drive, Kennedy Drive, Parr Lane, Hollins Lane, Hollins Brow and Manchester Road.
In Prestwich the route is being amended from being along Hilton Lane, to along Butterstile Lane.
An ADDITIONAL service will now run along this route from Rainsough to Prestwich Village to make this part of the route half hourly.

97 NEW SERVICE (Manchester – Prestwich – Unsworth – Bury)
New service 97 operating between Manchester and Bury via Bury New Road from Besses o’th’ Barn, Thatch Leach Lane, Oak Lane, Ribble Drive, Parr Lane via Unsworth and Hollins and Manchester Road, Parkhills Road, Market Street to Bury Interchange.
The service will operate every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime and every 30 minutes Sunday daytime.

98 – Manchester – Prestwich – Radcliffe – Bury)
Reduced from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes – however the 97 and 98 combined will mean an every 10 minute service from Manchester to Whitefield up Bury New Road.

The good news is a good 10 minute frequency up Bury New Road from Manchester to Prestwich AND a good 15 minute service from the Carr Clough and Rainsough areas to Manchester.

The BAD news is
– less buses from south west Prestiwch to Prestwich village – currently these is a bus every 15 minutes from Carr Clough to the village and beyond, now these will only be every 30 minutes. In addition the buses will only run along Buttersitle Lane, so there is no service from the ‘bottom’ of Carr Clough at all.

– no through buses at all from the Rainsough/Carr Clough areas towards Hollins and NO service at all to Pilsworth.

Please do get in touch if you are affected by these changes – it may be that we need to highlight to First Bus and to T4GM just how important these bus links are to people.

I am disappointed again that Pilsworth has been rejected. Not everyone drives. Alot of people do work in Pilsworth eg, ASDA, JD Sports Fashion Plc etc and rely on the buses. I feel that Pilsworth itself is in a depression (not what it once was!) and hindering people getting to the place isn’t going to help. I travel to Pilsworth on a commute to work everyday mon to fri from Salford and these changes make it more difficult for me and alot of the other people i know who work in the area. Pilsworth has huge potential and by cutting public transport there doesn’t help in a day when we are meant to be try to boost the economy. For the sake of the bus travelling an extra mile or so. I dont know why its a big issue.

Am I correct in saying there will be no service at all along Sunnybank Road, currently serviced by the 93? Although I am capable of walking to Manchester Road for buses to Bury there are many elderly residents who rely heavily on the 93, particularly on the return journey from Bury, to get up Sunnybank which is a significant gradient.

    • Paul says:

There will still be a bus along sunny bank rd it will be the extended 95 to/from Bury but it only runs every hr mon-sat daytime. The 93 will continue but only in the evenings so no bus along sunny bank rd on sunday daytimes the 97 will serve hollins brow with the 94 serving Pilsworth were it terminates from N.M.G.H and Prestwich, so no bus at all to Pilsworth from Bury in the daytime. The 92 will also continue but only in the evenings.

Why stop the 93 going down ribble drive and through carr Clough and down lower kersal towards Manchester u r cutting a lot of people off

  4. Kelly says:

Could u please tell me why u have stopped the 98/97 to pillsworth and is they any buses that go there as I work at the asda and have no idea how I’m going to get to work I moved here not long ago from east Yorkshire and have no idea of how I’m going to get to work as I can’t afford a taxi every day

    • prestwichfocus says:

Kelly – just to be clear it isn’t me who has stopped the 98/97 bus to Pilsworth, it is First Bus! We have all made very significant representations to First, and also to Transport for Greater Manchester who decide what the subsidised bus network is, and as you say it is a real shame that this route is no longer served well from Prestwich.

It is a huge issue and one which we are continuing to try to get change on.

  6. John Aldred says:

I can’t seem to find out where I can complain about the 98 bus service, do you have an email address for GMPTE, so that I can complain about the poor service they offer on this route
    Thank you
