Helping Children keep ‘e-safe’

by prestwichfocus on 19 March, 2014

A series of free sessions is being held for parents to raise awareness of the online risks to their children.

Bury Safeguarding Children Board (BSCB) works with the police, Bury Council, children’s centres and schools to educate and protect children about the safer use of the internet and mobile phones.

BSCB say: “The online world is now an integral part of everyday life for adults and especially young people. It enables them to stay in touch with their friends and access to the internet is now available like never before. However, there are inherent risks associated with new technologies and it is essential for young people and especially their parents and carers to understand how to reduce those risks.

Schools already have policies in place over children’s access to the internet and the use of mobile phones on school grounds. Teachers receive regular safeguarding children training, which incorporates training on e-safety issues which may arise in school.”

As part of this ongoing work these agencies often work closely with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) who lead in the field of online protection for children and regularly give advice and training to professionals who work with children on e-safety.

The sessions are free of charge – to book a place, contact your centre of choice.  They are for parents to be aware of how to protect their children and to keep them safe on the internet.
