Safer Simister with Smartwater Kits

by timpickstone on 29 March, 2010

Simister residents have a great opportunity to protect their homes and property with free Smartwater kits, thanks to Simister Home Watch Association.

The kits cost £59 each but are available free to local residents, and will enable valuables to be uniquely marked and protected. The kits work by placing an invisible dot containing a unique number which enables the police to identify the owner of recovered stolen property. The kit can be used on TVs, computers or any valued possession.

The kits are being funded by a Home Office grant and will help deter burglaries and thefts as property can be easily identified and traced.

The kits are already being distributed and can be obtained by attending the next meeting of Simister Village Community Association at 7.30pm on Wednesday March 31 in Lady Wilton Hall.

Councillor Vic D’Albert, chair of Prestwich LAP, said: “This is an excellent self-help initiative from Simister Home Watch Association which will help deter burglaries and keep Simister village safe and secure.”

  1. Dave Betts QPM says:

As the Police Partnership Manager for SmartWater Technology, I am so pleased that this most effective deterrent to crime has been adopted for this part of Bury and I hope in time other areas can benefit from it. Wherever SmartWater projects have been strategically used to makes communities safer throughout the UK the results have been dramatic. This use of 21st Century forensic technology is very powerful and criminals should be aware that they risk arrest and conviction if they attempt to commit crime in SmartWater protected areas.
