Councillor Tim Pickstone, the Mayor of Bury, was honoured to be able to join members of Prestwich Heritage Society as they planted two trees in St Mary’s Flower Garden, to remember and celebrate the life of Ian Pringle.

Ian died in 2018, and was was well known to a lot of people as a keen and passionate historian who was everyone knew they could go to whenever they needed help or advice on anything regarding the history or heritage of Prestwich.

He was an author of local histories including books on Philips Park and St Mary’s Churchyard and was in the process of writing a new book on the History of Prestwich as well as a regular contributor to local papers.

At the tree planing Tim said: “There are some people who, very quietly, use their lives to make a very significant contribution to the world. Ian was one of those people, doing so much to both celebrate and document the history and heritage of Prestwich”.
