TfGM Travel Guidelines

by timpickstone on 1 December, 2020

As Greater Manchester enters ‘Tier 3 restrictions from 2 December 2020, T4GM have issued these updated travel guidelines.

Public transport services continue to operate as normal, and that you can and should continue to travel in Greater Manchester – for work, to shop, to socialise outside in public spaces – and for many other reasons.

TfGM would ask though that while travel in Greater Manchester is fine, you look to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible.

Travel Safely

  • If you’re using public transport you must wear a face covering, including at transport hubs and interchanges, and in taxis and private hire vehicles, unless you are exempt. If you don’t, you may be unable to travel and you could be fined £200.
  • Keep your distance from other passengers where possible.
  • Clean your hands frequently and carry hand sanitiser with you.
  • Use contactless payment if you can.
  • Download the  NHS COVID-19 app  before you travel, if possible, and check in where you see official NHS COVID-19 QR code posters.
  • Avoid car sharing with people outside your household or support bubble.

In addition to the measures outlined above, TfGM is working closely with operators to help ensure the transport network is prepared to manage any increase in demand as shops reopen in the run up to Christmas.

  • Introducing ‘Trambassadors’ on the Metrolink network from December, who will engage with customers and provide advice on how to travel safely.
  • The installation of hand sanitiser dispensers at the busiest Metrolink stops, with a number already in place at bus stations and interchanges.
  • Further boosting the enhanced cleaning programme already in place at bus stations and interchanges by ensuring common touch points are cleaned every two hours to help limit the spread of the virus.
  • Joining the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme, so TfGM and Metrolink staff can offer support to those who need it and give everyone the confidence to travel safely.
