Greater Manchester’s Council leaders have agreed ticket prices on Metrolink will go up on 26 January 2020.
The peak ‘anytime travel’ 3 zones for Prestwich to Manchester goes up from £6.00 to £6.10. The off-peak 3 zone ticket goes up £4.20 to £4.30. An annual ticket Prestwich to Manchester goes from £930 to £967 – a 4% rise.
This is the third year running that Metrolink ticket prices have been put up by Council Leaders – about 15% over 3 years. This is despite the fact that (by their own estimates) 1 in 8 passengers don’t buy a ticket.
Our view is that better fare collection, such as conductors on trams, would mean that ticket prices could be frozen.
