Tackling Anti-Social ‘off road’ Vehicle Crime

by prestwichfocus on 9 August, 2016

One of the crime related issues that you most often raise with us and the police is reports of anti-social vehicle use around our communities – for example the use of ‘off road’ bikes or quad bikes around residential areas.

The Prestwich Police team has taken up the challenge to reduce this issue and raise awareness with the public.

This has included getting resources together to erect 18 new ‘Section 59’ warning signs across particular ‘hot spots’ affects by this issue.

There will be a Motorbike Awareness event to be held at Tesco Prestwich car park this Saturday 13th August 2016 from 11am – 3pm. On display will be some specialist Off-road Police vehicles and some locally seized vehicles. The idea is to encourage the public to report those responsible for this ASB and to raise awareness to the riders.

A commercial company COWM Leisure are generously offering one lucky rider the chance to take their bike to a legal track which is normally £30 in value plus they will be donating awareness material to the day to help raise awareness. The winner of the track day out will be decided live on Prestwich social media on the day and will hopefully change the attitude of potential riders.

Prestwich team will be conducting some more joint traffic events in direct response to raised community issues, coming in September and November 2016 highlighting awareness and enforcement on seatbelts, kids seats and mobile phone misuse.
