The Parklife Event is back in Heaton Park again this summer. Earlier in the year Cllr Mary D’Albert attended a briefing meeting with Heaton Park and the organisers of the Parklife Festival which we wanted to feed back to residents:

Event Basics
Parklife 2016 takes place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June 2016.

There is no Friday event this year, which was a decision of the event promoter, but this might not be the case in future years.

The opening times each day are 11am to 11pm, with last entry at 5.30pm.

Estimated attendance is 75,000 people. Headline acts this year include The Chemical Brothers, Major Lazer, Bastille, Years and Years and Jess Glynne.

As a new entry condition the event is 17 and over (ie no 16 year olds). This has been put in place in response to concerns raised about 16 year old GCSE students attending the event during exam period,

There will be three points of access to the event site – North (within Park near Boating Lake), East (Onto Sheepfoot Lane) and West (Bury Old Road), but St Margaret’s Road will NOT be one of the entrance or exit points.

Permits and road closures will be similar to last year. Sheepfoot Lane will be closed at exit time.

Heaton Park team station will be closed at the end of the event each evening and Bowker Vale will be used.

A large proportion of attendees are expected to use the shuttle bus ‘Parklife Express’ which will run as in previous years. A single ticket will cover either form of travel (tram or Parklife Express).

Bury Old Road/Cheetham Hill is the walking route back to Manchester.

Noise levels will be checked before and during the concert.

The clean up will start during the concert and carry on into Monday.

Local Community
The ‘hub’ for residents engagement will be the same location as last year at the Maccabi Club on Bury Old Road, to give residents the chance to speak face to face with someone from the event’s Community Impact Team. The team will also be doing work to engage with local businesses in advance of the event.

Four weeks before the event a letter will be sent to residents near to the park with more detail, and a second letter sent out a week before To those residents affected by traffic management.

A public drop in event will be held before the event as well as a post event drop-in.
