Victoria Station and Exchange Square Station Openings

by prestwichfocus on 3 December, 2015

Metro link have confirmed that trams will be running to the new Exchange Square station before Christmas.

The Exchange Square stop will open on 6th December. We won’t be having Bury line trams there, but there the new station will meant that an additional service will run from Shaw on the Oldham/Rochdale line to Exchange square. Eventually services will run through once the full second city crossing line is finished.

Manchester Victoria reopens after £44m facelift
Manchester’s Victoria station has formally re-opened following a £44m facelift delivered by the previous Coalition Government. Before the facelift Victora was frequently ranked as the worst station in Britain….

The revamp of the station includes the new roof, new shops and cafés, extra tram platforms, but maintaining some of the beautiful Victorian architecture, some of which dates back to 1844.

Part of the plans for reviving Victoria is to allow more trains to run from there, particularly as the transpennine electrification continues (if the Government doesn’t continue to “pause” the funding!). More Transpenne Express services on the Liverpool – Manchester – Leeds – Newcastle line now run from Victoria which is hopefully improvement of service for people in the Prestwich and Bury areas.
